This policy explains what information Dipple uses, where it goes, how long it's kept and what you can do about it. Dipple is made by Dylan Tazawa-Lim, trading as Dipple (ABN 58 237 629 332) ("Dipple", "we", "us"), of Waverton NSW 2060, Australia. Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- Most of Dipple stays on your Mac. Your workflows, recordings, settings, memory, history and meeting notes are stored on your Mac, not on our server.
- When you ask Dipple something, what it needs to answer goes to Anthropic's Claude. That's your question and, when it's about your screen, a picture of the screen. It passes through our server on the way, and our server doesn't keep it.
- Our server keeps the minimum for your account: who you are (from Google sign-in), your plan, your payment references and how much of your allowance you've used.
- We don't sell your information, show you ads, use tracking or analytics SDKs, or train AI models on your data.
- You can delete your account from the app at any time.
1. What stays on your Mac
These are stored only on your Mac, in Dipple's folder (~/Library/Application Support/Dipple) or in the macOS Keychain. We can't see them.
| What | Notes |
|---|---|
| Workflows and recordings of tasks you show Dipple, with screenshots of the steps | Until you delete them |
| Memory: facts you asked Dipple to remember | Until you delete them (Settings → Memory) |
| Conversation history | Off by default. If you turn it on (Settings → Privacy & History), text only, with anything that looks like a secret redacted; the newest 200 conversations, up to 30 days |
| Meeting notes | Summaries and action items until you delete them; full transcripts for 30 days |
| Dictation: the last 50 things you dictated, so you can copy one again | Until newer ones replace them |
| Activity log: the last 500 actions Dipple took on your Mac, and whether you approved them | Until newer ones replace them |
| Screenshots taken to answer a question | Kept in memory only while a conversation is open, never saved to disk |
| Sign-in session and tokens for services you connect (Google, Notion, GitHub) | In the macOS Keychain |
| Settings | Until you remove Dipple |
Meeting audio is never stored and never leaves your Mac. Speech is turned into text on your Mac by Apple's on-device speech recognition.
Deleting your Dipple account doesn't remove these. You can delete them in Dipple's settings. To remove everything, quit Dipple, move Dipple and the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Dipple to the Trash, and empty it. (In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and paste that path.)
2. What goes to Anthropic (Claude) when you use Dipple's AI
Dipple's answers come from Claude, made by Anthropic. When you use a feature that needs AI, Dipple sends what that request needs, and only when you make it:
- Your question, typed or spoken. Voice is turned into text on your Mac by Apple's speech recognition. For a language your Mac can't recognise on its own, macOS sends the audio to Apple to turn it into text, under Apple's privacy policy. Meeting notes never do this.
- When you ask about your screen, a picture of the screen under your cursor, with Dipple's own windows left out. Dipple shows you a thumbnail of exactly what was sent. If you've granted Accessibility, it also sends the front app's window title, the focused item and any text you've selected. Password fields are never read.
- In Mark Mode, what you marked and any attachments you added.
- When Dipple does a task for you ("Do it for me", Teach Me), a picture of the screen at each step, the goal and the steps so far.
- When you turn a recording into a workflow, the list of recorded steps (the app, the button or field and its name, the text you left in a field, menu commands and web pages) and up to four small screenshots from the recording. Turn the screenshots off in Settings → General → "Send screenshots when Dipple learns a task". Keystrokes and password fields are never recorded.
- When Dipple repairs a failed step of a workflow, that step and a picture of the screen.
- When a meeting ends, the transcript text (labelled "You" and "Others"), plus the calendar event's title and attendee names if the meeting matched one. Nothing is sent during the meeting.
- Facts from your Memory that are relevant to the question, and the parts of the current conversation needed to continue it.
These requests travel over an encrypted connection to our server (see §3), which passes them on to Anthropic and doesn't log or keep what's in them. Anthropic processes them to produce the answer, as our service provider under its Commercial Terms:
- Anthropic doesn't train its models on them. Its Commercial Terms forbid training on our customers' content.
- Anthropic deletes them within 30 days, unless they're flagged as breaking its Usage Policy, in which case Anthropic may keep them for up to 2 years to enforce it, or the law requires it to keep them longer. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
Workflows that run entirely on your Mac use no AI and send nothing.
3. What our server stores
Dipple's server runs on Cloudflare, in the United States. It stores:
| What | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|
| Your account: Google's ID for you and your email address | To sign you in and contact you about your account | Until you delete your account |
| Your plan, Stripe customer and subscription references | To know what you've paid for | Until you delete your account |
| Usage counts: talk messages, agent credits, meeting summaries, and an estimate of AI cost per request | To apply your plan's allowances and fair-use limits | Until you delete your account |
| Credits Dipple gives you (welcome credits, and credits from share links) | To give you those credits | Until they expire (14 days for welcome credits, 90 for others), or until you delete your account |
| Share links you create | So the people you send them to can open them | See below |
| A record that an account was deleted, and when | To finish deletion and prove it happened | Not linked to who it was |
| For an account banned for abuse: Google's ID for it, and nothing else | To stop the same person signing up again | Indefinitely, even after the account is deleted |
It never stores your questions, Claude's answers, screenshots, recordings, meeting transcripts or workflow content, with one exception: share links.
Share links. When you share a workflow or lesson, Dipple first shows you the copy it will share, with personal details removed, and you choose to share it. That copy is kept on our server until the link expires (after 30 days by default, or when you chose) or you stop sharing it. Anyone with the link can see it. For a signed file share, only the file's fingerprint (hash) is sent, not the file.
Without an account:
- Setup counts. While you set Dipple up, it sends anonymous daily totals of which setup steps were reached. They have no account, device ID or IP address attached. This is on by default; turn it off in Settings → Privacy & History ("Send anonymous setup counts"). Because they can't identify you, they aren't personal information.
- Crash reports. Only if you turn them on. Dipple asks once, after its first crash. A report contains the app and macOS versions, the kind of crash or hang and where in Dipple's code it happened, with no account, device or IP address. Kept 90 days.
- Update checks. Once a day Dipple checks for a new version, sending only the app and macOS versions.
- Waitlist. If you join the waitlist on getdipple.com before launch, we keep your email address and when you joined, and use it only to tell you when Dipple is available. Nothing else is attached to it. Ask [email protected] to be removed at any time; we delete the list once launch emails have gone out.
Like any website, Cloudflare sees the IP address of each connection to deliver it and to protect the service from attacks, under its own privacy policy. Our server doesn't keep IP addresses or request logs; it records only events such as "a crash report was received", with nothing about who sent it.
4. Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. Dipple never sees or stores your full card number. Stripe receives your payment details and billing address, and keeps records of payments and invoices that tax law requires, even after you delete your Dipple account. Stripe's privacy policy applies to what it collects.
5. Signing in
You sign in with Google. Dipple asks Google only for your basic identity and email address (openid email), not your contacts, mail or files. Google's privacy policy applies to your Google account.
6. Services you connect
You can connect Dipple to other services, such as Google Calendar, Sheets and Drive, Notion and GitHub, or use the Apple Calendar and Reminders on your Mac. These connections go directly from your Mac to that service, using your own sign-in, which is kept in your Keychain. Our server isn't involved and doesn't see that data. Each service's own privacy policy applies. You can disconnect them in Settings → Accounts.
Your location. If you ask how long it takes to get somewhere, and allow Location Services, Dipple reads where your Mac is and sends it, with the place you asked about, only to Apple Maps to work out the route. Home and work come from your own card in Contacts on your Mac. Your location and addresses are never sent to our server or the AI provider, and Dipple doesn't keep them. Apple's privacy policy applies to Apple Maps. You can turn this off in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
7. Who we share information with
Only these service providers, and only to run Dipple:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Anthropic | Producing AI answers (§2) |
| Cloudflare | Hosting our server, database, share links and downloads |
| Stripe | Payments, tax and invoices |
| Sign-in |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect Dipple's users or the service from fraud or abuse, or as part of a sale or merger of Dipple, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
We don't sell or rent personal information, or share it for targeted advertising.
8. Legal bases (EU/UK)
We use your information to provide the service you asked for (contract), to keep the service safe and prevent abuse (legitimate interests), to meet tax and legal obligations (legal obligation), and for crash reports, with your consent.
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: Settings → Plan & Usage → Delete Account. This cancels any subscription immediately, signs out every Mac and deletes your account, plan, usage records, credits and share links from our server. Stripe keeps the payment records the law requires. Signing in again later starts a new, empty account.
- Stop sharing a link at any time from Shared Links in your workflow library.
- Turn off setup counts, crash reports or conversation history in Settings → Privacy & History.
- Ask us for a copy of what our server holds about you, to correct it or to delete it, by writing to [email protected]. You can also ask us to stop using it, or to send it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. We'll reply within 30 days, and may ask you to confirm the request from the email on your account. We'll never treat you differently for using these rights.
These rights apply to everyone, wherever you live. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, tell us first and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your data protection authority: in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au); in the EU or UK, your national authority.
10. Children
Dipple isn't for children. You must be 18 or older to use it (Terms of Service §2). We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we'll delete the account and its information.
11. Where information is processed
Dipple's server and its database are in the United States, as are Anthropic, Stripe and Google. If you're outside the US, your information is transferred there. We rely on each provider's standard data-processing terms, which include the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK's equivalent, to protect it. We're based in Australia; we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and take reasonable steps to make sure these overseas providers do too.
12. Security
Connections to our server are encrypted. Your sign-in session and connected-service tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain. Our server holds no AI content to leak. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
13. Changes to this policy
We'll post changes here and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we'll tell you in the app and by email before it applies.
